default
Posted on Tue, 7 Oct 2014
Question: My son was diagnosed with a fungal skin rash and our GP prescribed some topical cream as well as aome tablets and Alergex. We have now accidentally spilt all the Alergex and now I'm wondering if I could give him a Rhineton tablet instead of the Alergex Syrup?

Regards

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. Yes, seeing the image, it is fine to give him a Rineton tablet if you do not have the Allergex syrup as they both contain the same active ingredient (Chlorpheniramine).

2. The dose for children between 6 to 12 years is usually half that of an adult. You should not exceed 12 mg of Rhineton in 24 hours.

3. If possible, consult your doctor over the phone and switch back to the Allergex syrup.

I hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.

I am not sure of the strength of the Rhineton though. I will take a picture of the packet and upload but I think maybe I should just give him half a tab until I can get another bottle of Allergex in the morning when the pharmacy opens?
