Question: I take 200 mg allopurinol daily but I had a flare up of gout and my foot is killing me. Is it safe to take an extra 100 mg to speed the healing?

Hi and welcome.

Yes,dosage can be increased to 300mg daily with no risk of overdose.
However, it may not help with pain and flare ups since it may take 1-2 weeks till allopurinol stabilizes urate levels. So it is not used for acute pain management, but more for stabilization and prevention of the disease on longer term.
For¸acute pain and flare up you should take Indometacin or Ibuprofen along with Allopurinol. Also, apply cold compresses and keep your leg elevated.
Also, it would be good to check your blood urate levels and then correct dosage of allopurinol accordingly.
