Brief Answer:
it's most likely benign but has to be checked

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

the chances are that this lump is benign but it has to be checked by a doctor. Please note that close to the period the breast becomes engorged and "lumps" may appear which disappear a few days later. The other breast has to be checked as well. Sometimes the breasts are full of small lumps due to their structure. Not every woman has the same structure.

Another thing to consider is cancer of course but her age is much against this diagnosis. A strongly positive family history for breast cancer though would be suggestive.

Finally, keep in mind that even if this lump stays there after her period, there are benign forms of lumps in the breast like cysts, lipomas, fibroadenomas, etc which won't cause any real problems to her.

Her doctor has to check this lump by clinical examination of both breasts and the axillary lymph nodes and perhaps also order radiological tests (mammography and ultrasound scan).
