Is TURP Surgery The Right Method Of Treatment For Recurrent Bladder Infection?

default
Posted on Wed, 28 Dec 2016
Question: I have had two bladder infections in the last 9 months. The first one in March left so weak I could not even get up from the couch. My wife called our personal physician and he told her to call 911 And get me to the hospital. Got antiboacts, spent 6 days in the hosp. Ended up very weak . Spent 20 more days in rehab. During that time I saw a urologist, he suggested I might consider TURP surgery. Had second infection in October. Would you reccomend this sugery? I have read all about it on the internet.

Brief Answer:
TURP will prevent getting frequent episodes of UTI .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you are known to have Enlarged prostate and have repeated episodes of bladder infection since 6 months .Was hospitalized and treated with antibiotics resulting into weakness .

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) Are you diabetic?
2) Do you any other cardiac illness ?
3) Are you otherwise in a good health ?

The basic cause for getting repeated episodes of UTI is Benign Enlargement of prostate and needs to be addressed as a priority .

TURP is a gold standard surgery for resection (Removal ) of enlarged prostate practiced world wide and offers permanent cure and improves quality of life at this age .

Looking at the repeated UTI that you have to face off and on If all other general parameters like blood pressure ,cardiac ejection factors etc are well within reasonably acceptable risk for anesthesia I would suggest you to go ahead and get the surgery of TURP done .It is a simple surgery with less morbidity requiring hospitalization only for 2-3 days .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
