Is Belviq A Safe Diet Drug?

default
Posted on Mon, 11 May 2015
Question: I received your answer I asked yesterday regarding Toprol XL and Diovan HCT. Thank you. My daughter thinks I could take a diet drug called Belviq or something like that. I am almost sure I have MCAS (inflammatory condition). What are good H1 and H2 histamine blockers. Also, is Belviq a safe diet drug? I am now taking heart meds, benzodiazapines, NSAIDs and I need to take antihistamines on a consistent basis instead of sporadically. What advice do you have? I have a doctor's appointment in 3 months. (Docs are SO BUSY! you'd better be armed with data when you get there!!!! I have CFIDS (or CFS) allegedly.
Is Belviq (diet drug) safe? Which histaimine blockers could I take with my other meds? It is my understanding that after doing my own research, I need several kinds of antihistamines with this complicated disease.

I think Dr. Srdan Verstovsek at M. D. XXXXXXX is a specialist in this, but it would take months and months before I could see her (if ever).

Brief Answer:
Belviq has many interaction with drugs you are taking.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.
Belviq contains lorcaserin. It affects chemicals in the brain that affect the appetite. It is used together with diet and exercise.
But belviq has interaction with hydrochorthiazide and losartan group of drugs what you are taking as antihypertensive. Moreover it also affect heart rate.
So it should not be taken without consulting your doctor. It should be taken only if risk benefits ratio is favorable. It should not be taken if you are allergic to that drugs.

So according to my opinion you should not take it before consulting your doctor.

Many antihistaminics are available nowadays. Loratedine, cetrizine and fexofenidine are some of the second generation H1 antihistamines with less sedative effect.

Famotidine is the H2 blocker used to reduce acid secretion from stomach.

Consult your doctor and plan accordingly.
Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.
