I Feel Like I Lose My Voice Faster And In General Have A More Hoarse Voice. Any Idea If This Could Be Stomatitis Or Something Else?

Question: Gender: Male

Location: Under tongue and throat.

Duration: Around 2 weeks.

Medicin: Antibiotics (Tetracycline for 2 months), mycostatin (against possible fungal infection from antibiotics).

I started having some throat irritation, pain swallowing, and some random sharp pains primarily in the right side under my jaw. Furthermore I felt a cramping pain sometimes when moving my tongue around my mouth to clean teeth from foods.

I went to the doctor and was negative for strep throat and my blood test was also negative of infections. I was then given the antifungal mouthwash because she said I could try if it helped which I haven't felt any help so far in.

I looked into my mouth to try to see if I could see anything that could cause this and found these red bumps primarily under the right side of my tongue. They don't seem to hurt when touched but they look out of place and there's a bigger red bump a little further down that looks maybe like an irritated gland?

I feel like I lose my voice faster and in general have a more hoarse voice.

Any idea if this could be stomatitis or something else?

Brief Answer:
Mucocele of the oral cavity... Laryngopharyngeal reflux...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting the query

I have examined the image thoroughly and I am of the opinion that it is mucocele of the oral cavity. Mucocele is a blocked minor salivary gland with the collection of saliva inside. This is usually noticed when there is constant irritation over the opening of the minor salivary gland. Following which, the opening of the gland blocks, but, production of the saliva continues causing the gland to swell. Do not worry! It is completely harmless and doesn't produce any symptoms.

Hoarseness in your condition could be due to Laryngopharyngeal reflux secondary to the acid reflux disease. You would require further investigation in this regard. A course of proton pump inhibitors along with dietary and lifestyle modifications can alleviate your problems.

Hope this answers your query; revert back to me if you are having any further queries.

Thank you Dr. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX N.

I have a couple of follow up questions:

1) Could any of the issues I have be related to the medicine Tetracycline?

2) My biggest worry and issue is that I feel a pulsating throbbing pain/irritation under my jaw. It's around the big glands under the jaw and seem to move around my jaw. I feel it at times all the way up close to my ear in the right side and sometimes it's also felt in the left side, but it's primarily in the right side of my jaw, under my jaw and above the adam's apple. It is mostly felt when I swallow and when I turn my head into tighter positions. Any idea what could cause this?

Brief Answer:
None of your above symptoms are related to intake of tetracycline.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Welcome back

1. No, the above issues are not related to the use of tetracycline.

2. Throbbing pain under the jaw could be related to any of the following conditions, myoclonus of the muscles of the neck, the myofascial pain dysfunction syndrome or temporomandibular joint disorder. An apt maxillo-facial surgeon can help you in identifying the exact cause of your problem.

Hope this clarifies your doubts. Wish you good health.

Thank you again Dr. Been at my doctor she didn't see anything wrong. She checked my lymph nodes and said she felt nothing wrong and looked into my mouth with nothing new. She said what's under my tongue must be papilae and glands. I'm trying to get a fast time with an ent, but until then what can I do for this issue in my throat/neck? I'm trying to figure out where the pain is coming from and it seems to me like it's stemming from the area just above the XXXXXXX apple. I would suppose it's where my tongue is attached as I feel the pain too when moving my tongue around and applying pressure and is felt in the throat and under my chin next to the glands. What is in this area of my neck/throat that could cause these symptoms? Also I wonder if neck issues such as posture or muscle issues can cause these symptoms in this area or similar? Thank you again.

Brief Answer:
Myofascial pain dysfunction syndrome...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Welcome back

According to your description, the pain seems to be originating from the back of the tongue. This is the place where the numerous muscles of the tongue are attached to the surrounding bones. Any inflammation or trauma to this group of muscles or the associated bone, the pain can radiate all along their attachment. Hence, without examination it would be difficult to comment about your problem.

I would still adhere to my earlier response of myofascial pain dysfunction syndrome.

I wish you good health
