How To Recognise Implantation Bleeding?

default
Posted on Fri, 18 Mar 2016
Question: Dear doctor, i have been noting my vaginal discharge from some time. My lmp was 6th january. And mine is a 30-31 days mensturation cycle as per which i should be expecting my menses around 4/5th feb. This month i was trying to track my ovulation, but did not really get a strtchy egg white discharge around 15-16 days after the last period. Where as now, when i am around 11 days away from my next period the discharge has increased and its no longer sticky or cremy in nature. Its almost transparent and a little stretchy too. Can this indicate implantation? I read it on internet that after implantation the discharge increases and its transparent in color. N if so, when can i test the earliest as i dont want a pregnancy. Can u please help me, i am very tensed .

Brief Answer:
implantation cannot be predicted basing on vaginal discharge

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear, hope you are doing well.Iam happy to see you again.
I understand your concern.Dont panic.Just relax.Iam there to help you.
We can only approximately predict the ovulation basing on nature of cervical mucus or vaginal discharge.
Other signs of ovulation are:-
1) Mittelscmerz bleeding-Here there is spotting on ovulation.
2)Basal body temperature(BBT)-raise of body temperature.
3)Vaginal discharge- it is thin mucoid excess amount before the ovulation and thick and less amount after the ovulation.
But all the above changes are very subtle to notice and cannot be taken for predicting accurately.
And they may or may not be definitely seen in all the woman.
And also we cannot predict the implantation basing on vaginal discharge as more specific tests are available.
Once implantation occurs the first hormone to be detected is BHCG.It is seen as early as
1 week after implantation in blood.
And it is detected a week after missed period in urine.
So the early and first predictor of pregnancy is serum BHCG.
But iam not suggesting you to go and test for BHCG as it is not necessary now.
If at all the period is delayed consider doing a urine pregnancy test a week after missed period.
Relax and wait for the periods as there is still time for the periods.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Feel free to discuss further.

Thankyou doctor for your reply. Is it possible that i might be ovulating late this month? As in is it possible to ovulate 20/21 days from last period? Also, if that might be the case will i get my next period on time or will it be delayed? Also, how early can bhcg test be taken after lmp? A test taken on 25 th day will give accurate result? Or it would be too early for the test?

Brief Answer:
Urine pregnancy test is better

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,goodday.
I have gone through your query.
The conditions like stress, any hormonal intake ,any infections might cause hormonal imbalance leading to delayed period in a regularly menstruating woman.

By considering the vaginal discharge as it is profuse and excess it appears the ovulation has not occurred.

So once the ovulation is delayed the period might also get delayed because the period occurs exactly 14 days after the ovulation.

The BHCG test might be taken 3 weeks after the LMP in case of regular cycles.
The test on 25th might be taken.

But if the ovulation is delayed then the date of testing cannot be predicted.

So the best thing is waiting till the period and take the test if the period is delayed.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Feel free to discuss further.

Brief Answer:
There is no pregnancy

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,goodday.
Iam glad to answer you again.
I understand your concern.

As the BHCG level is less than 1.2 at 26th day of the cycle there is no scope for pregnancy.

The BHCG level more than 5 at this day of the cycle indicates pregnancy.

So relax. There is absolutely no chance of pregnancy.

Hope this satisfies your query.
Feel free to discuss further.

Hi doctor, thankyou for your reply. But the test was done on day 24 and not 26. Does that make a difference ? Does a bhcg test on day 24 with value <1.2 rules out pregnancy too? Also, my vaginal disharge has reduced. In the mornings my vagina is wet, watery but no discharge and towards evening there is slight dicharge which is creamy in color and sticky. Is this normal? Does this signify that i am approaching my periods?

Brief Answer:
It rules out pregnancy

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,good day.
I have gone through your query.
I understand your concern.
In my opinion the BHCG test done on 24 th day with a value of < 1.2 also rules out the pregnancy.
Because the BHCG levels starts to rise 8- 10 days after the ovulation.
So 24 th or 26 th day does not make any difference.
As the vaginal discharge is decreased in amount and getting sticky and thickened it appears a premenstrual change.
So you might be approaching the periods.
So relax dear. There is no chance of pregnancy.
As I explained you previously stress can also delay the periods.
Avoid stress.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Feel free to discuss furthur.
Best regards...Dr.Srilatha
