Question: In a patient with a peptic ulcer; is the acute problem the episodes of epigastric pain and the chronic the nausea, bloating, and heartburn or continuous gastritis? I am unsure

Hello,
There is not much difference in acute and chronic symptoms.

Pain, nausea and abdominal discomfort can be present in both acute and chronic ulcers.

It is the duration which varies. Any ulcer which does not heal beyond 8 weeks on treatment is chronic.

Thank you that helped, but I am a student doing an Assessment paper and I have to categorize them into acute and chronic she had the pain for 7 weeks before coming into our office. What do you advise??
