Aripiprazole should be discontinued gradually, with careful consideration from the prescribing doctor, to avoid withdrawal symptoms or relapse. Withdrawal symptoms like nausea, lightheadedness, diaphoresis, dyskinesia, tachycardia, rhabdomyolysis, nervousness, dizziness, headache, excessive non-stop crying, and anxiety can occur. So, it is advised to gradually stop the drug under the guidance of your doctor. In my clinical practise, i prefer to simply reduce the dose to half for next 2 weeks, and further half over next 2 weeks and then i stop the drug provided my patient has no problem and also if he/she is not relapsing. However, in your case you are taking it since 5 weeks only, so withdrawal symptoms are less likely, still chances of relapse are high with abrupt withdrawal, so i suggest you to withdraw it gradually under guidance of your doctor. They can be so trouble some that sometimes we have to admit the patient and put him/her on Intravenous anxiolytics. Apart from the problem of withdrawal symptoms and disease relapse, as such there is no harm in stopping the drug abruptly. Usually medications of Bipolar disorder take time to work properly and show their effect. If you can really not tolerate the medication, then only stop it.
