Brief Answer: Should not be stopped abruptly. Detailed Answer: Dear Friend. Hi , I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern. Aripiprazole should be discontinued gradually, with careful consideration from the prescribing doctor, to avoid withdrawal symptoms or relapse. Withdrawal symptoms like nausea, lightheadedness, diaphoresis, dyskinesia, tachycardia, rhabdomyolysis, nervousness, dizziness, headache, excessive non-stop crying, and anxiety can occur. So, it is advised to gradually stop the drug under the guidance of your doctor. In my clinical practise, i prefer to simply reduce the dose to half for next 2 weeks, and further half over next 2 weeks and then i stop the drug provided my patient has no problem and also if he/she is not relapsing. However, in your case you are taking it since 5 weeks only, so withdrawal symptoms are less likely, still chances of relapse are high with abrupt withdrawal, so i suggest you to withdraw it gradually under guidance of your doctor. This is my personal opinion based on details available here. If you still have any query you may please ask me. Stay Healthy. Dr Anshul Varshney , MD

Brief Answer: Detail follows Detailed Answer: Dear Friend. Withdrawal symptoms are sometimes very serious. They can be so trouble some that sometimes we have to admit the patient and put him/her on Intravenous anxiolytics. Apart from the problem of withdrawal symptoms and disease relapse, as such there is no harm in stopping the drug abruptly. However, still, my strong recommendation is to stop it gradually, in your case migt be over 2 weeks. That's appreciable that you really want to live happily without these medications, i am sure you will get success. If you have any further query, please ask me, else you may please close the discussion and rate it. Stay Healthy.

Brief Answer: Good Luck. Detailed Answer: Thank you so much dear. In fact, even if medications are not helping you much, you further need re evaluation and addition of medicines or increase of dosage. Usually medications of Bipolar disorder take time to work properly and show their effect. If you can really not tolerate the medication, then only stop it. If you have decided to stop them because you are not getting enough reile, you should continue them till you get an appointment with your doctor. In any case, you have any issues further, we are always available to help you our best. Moreover, you don't need to take any appointments from us! :-) Good Luck and Stay Healthy and happy!
