Question: I was given prednisone to help me after suffering for 14 days from an allergic reaction to a black fly bite in my left eye. I thought I was coping with poison ivy so kept scrubbing my face with ivydry soap which appears to have left my sensitive facial tissue already so swollen from the bite rather burned. The urgent care physician said that I should see improvement in 24-48 hrs. The majority of the swelling to my face has subsided but now ending day 2 of the 9day prednisone cycle the hives which were on my face are moving to my neck and beginning to seriously itch, burn and swell. The hives are not moving up my face which is still improving. Is this hive reaction normal with how long I suffered the allergic reactions? Normal to a resurgence of the hives 4 hours before my next prednisone dose? Am I expecting too much too soon from the prednisone? My tolerances are greatly lowered with the lack of sleep over the last 2 weeks not to mention the agonizing swelling and allergic symptoms during this time as well.
