Brief Answer:
It is out of your system

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for writing through HCM.

I have read your query and understood your concerns.

Oxycodone is a opioid analgesic. Taking oxycodone for long term would result in dependence on the drug. That is why to avoid withdrawal symptoms you have been advised to wean off slowly. It is good that you are off the drugs for 7 days.

Theoretically speaking oxycodone is out of your system but it can be detected in drug screen of your hair follicles for about 3 to 4 months after last intake.

It can not be detected in blood, urine, saliva but in hair follicle it can be detected.

If you are planning for taking drug screen for return to the job then you have to be sure that it should be urine screen not the hair follicle.

Hope I have answered your query. If you do not have further query then close the discussion and rate the answer.

Wish you good health.

Can you address my concern about possible cravings. At this time I do not want to take the med Oxycodone, but just wondering if I do not have cravings if I should still seek out a NA group. I always took the med as prescribed but am concerned that my brain may be craving the drug.

Brief Answer:
You need not worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for writing again.

If you are not having the craving at present then you need not to worry. It is possible that you may develop the craving to take the oxycodone. Management requires when craving occurs and that should be severe. You have been good without the drugs for more than 7 days now and I don't think that you have any problem regarding withdrawal and craving.

If the person continues taking the drug even after weaning off due to withdrawal symptoms then s/he needs maintenance therapy with methadone/buprenorphine. One can also have naltrexone to stay away from opioids. I feel here that you need not concern this at present and focus on your motivation and goal of staying clean from opioids.

If you find that you are developing the craving then be resistant to it and visit your doctor.

Narcotic anonymous will be good idea to attend to. You can go there and tell your concerns and can have regular meetings there.

Hope I have answered your query. If you do not have further query then close the discussion and rate the answer.

Wish you good health.
