How Effective Is Azithromycin In Curing Chlamydia Or Gonorrhea?

default
Posted on Fri, 26 Jun 2015
Question: Hi. I had unprotected sex two days ago. I am nervous about contracting STDs, for which I asked a doctor to prescribe me antibiotics for potential bacterial STDs. I took 1000mg of azithromycin yesterday. I will get tested in 2-3 weeks to be sure, and then again in ~months to check for any viral STDs. If I abstain for sex 7 days after taking the dose, can I be safe to assume that I would be cured of Chlamydia or Gonorrhea if I did contract them?

I knew I was clear of STDs before this incident as I was tested about a month ago.

Brief Answer:
Yes, azithromax is a good drug for chlamydia not Gonorrhea.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this unprotected sexual encounter you had. Please, always endeavor to protect yourself by using a a condom during all sexual encounters.

Azithromax should be taken at a dose of 500mg for 3days to treat chlamydia. This drug is not the best against gonorrhea and I will suggest that you add a one time shot of cetriaxone for this. Make sure you follow up and get tested for other infections like HIV, hepatitis, etc in the next 3-4weeks to make sure you are again cleared of every possible disease.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
