How Can Symptoms That Look Like Chronic / Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome Be Treated?

default
Posted on Wed, 5 May 2021
Question: Hello,
I have been dealing with gastroentological issues for a few years now. My most recent endoscopy revealed that I have lazy villi...nothing that helped with a diagnosis or treatment. My doctors just want to prescribe anti nausea drugs to treat the symptoms. Chronic/cyclic vomiting syndrome was the closest diagnosis. At my worst I was vomiting on the hour, every hour over a year ago. Water, Pedialyte, etc. didn't matter - nothing stayed down. I have been doing much better this year, and have been eating, but I still feel less than healthy. In doing more research, the closest match to my symptoms seems to be pyloric stenosis, although that is a diagnosis most often associated with male babies. I am a woman in my early 40s. I don't usually have nausea. I just can't handle much food in my stomach at one time. I feel a pinch (not even painful, but noticeable) on my left side between my stomach and my small intestine. My doctors have dismissed the information I give them. I'm just looking for another assessment. Thank you so much for any information you can provide. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you!

1. Is there any relation of triggering of symptoms in concern with particular food

I have no food allergies. It's definitely not celiac disease, Crohn's, etc. (Those have already been ruled out.) I have no issue with gluten, dairy, or nuts. I am a vegetarian, so I do not eat meat or fish. I have no issue with any particular foods.

2. Any other investigations done apart from endoscopy ?
If available, please provide as an attachment in the follow up.
The endoscopy was the last invasive test I had done. It didn't yield any useful information for this condition. I fainted the previous year and was in the hospital overnight. All the tests they ran revealed that I had uterine fibroids, but that was it. There were no other health issues.

3. Body weight, height and history of any systemic illness as diabetes or others.
5'7, 148 pounds, no history of diabetes or other chronic illnesses.

4. History of smoking, alcohol consumption if any.
Moderate drinking.

5. Details of bowel movements.
Occasional constipation. Diarrhea sometimes. It's dependent on how much fiber I have. When I'm not eating, I don't ingest that much fiber, which obviously affects my bowel movements. I usually get the fiber from apples, oatmeal, FiberOne granola bars, etc.

Brief Answer:
follow up .

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for the details.

* The issue seems to be in relation with gut flora disturbances from immune
mediated mechanisms, trace elements alteration or others.

My recommendations at present

- Not much will be revealed from the investigative point of view, rather focus on
the life style modifications to major level for better control of the issue.
- Prime contribution of gut control will come from meditations, deep breathing
exercises and YOGA ( which will re align the mooladhar chakra of the abdomen )

- Regular walking in fresh air, exercises.
- Dietary measures with plenty of liquids, high fiber diet, whole grains, cereals,
pulses, legumes, organic fresh fruits.
Regular intake of fresh yogurt provides probiotics.
Avoidance of spices, oily, dairy fat.

- Have to thoroughly think about quitting alcohol which will support for sure.
- Maintain blood sugar, body weight.
- Regular sound sleep of 7-8 hours.

- Discuss the need of pro biotic supplements as medicines for supportive role with
your doctor.

Hope this information will be helpful to you.
Wish you fine recovery.

Regards.
