How Can Severe Vomiting In A 11 Month Old Child Be Treated?
Question: Hi my baby is 11months old his weight is 9.7 kg. He is suffering from the vomiting since 2 days I have given emeset 2mg.. I consulted doctor he told to continue the medicine. And the thing is after giving emeset also his vomiting didn't controlled and today after giving the medicine vth in 10min he did vomiting again can I give medicine again and he is drinking only milk no solid food from 2days I'm feeding him formula milk and he is not drinking electrolyte water or ors-l and which type of food should I give

I have gone carefully through your query. Your child has an episode of gastritis, possibly due to viral cause. Proper fluid replenishment with ORS (oral rehydration solution) should be done. Unless this is done, it could lead to fluid and salt depletion. You therefore need to monitor the urine output. If the child does not pass urine for at least 6-8 times in 24 hours you would need to take his to the hospital for treatment of dehydration. You may give juices of fruits like citrus fruits, or bananas for replenishment of the salts. Continue to give some antiemetic like Emeset (ondansetron) when needed. You would need to give Nexpro XXXXXXX half such twice daily for the next few days. Do not give regular formula milks for the time being. However, soy based formula like LoLac or Zerolac or Isomil can be given. Give rice based items and avoid wheat based ones.
Please be patient. But if the child grows lethargic you would have to rush him to the hospital. Monitor the urine output. If it is reduced you would need to increase the fluid intake and if that does not suffice you might need to visit the hospital.
