Question: Hi doctor. I have a baby thats around 9 weeks old. Hes developed a cough and is sneezing. What can i do? Im quite worried. I have this medicine called calcough it says to give only after 3 months but can i give him now? Im worried that it doesnt get worse

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. Let me assure you that coughing, sneezing, hiccups etc. are normal in babies of this age and there is nothing to worry about it. However, reflux of the stomach contents could trigger such a presentation. Proper burping will ensure that the milk will not regurgitate back from the stomach to the food pipe. You should burp the baby for at least 15-20 mins after each feed. All you need to do is to hold the baby head end elevated for this duration.

Calcough can be given to a child even at this age. However, I doubt if that is needed. Rather, you can give some antiallergic drop like cetirizine once daily.
