Hi I Had A Sharp Pelvic Pain On My Left

default
Posted on Fri, 3 May 2019
Question: Hi I had a sharp pelvic pain on my left side during intercourse followed by lower abdominal pain and cramping on my right side that radiated up around my right shoulder. The cramping on the right side went away the next day. However, my lower abdominal area is bloated and it’s uncomfortable to walk 3 days later. I never had a fever. I’m not constipated and there’s no noticeable bleeding. Should I give it time to improve or do I need to visit a doctor right away. Any idea as to what could cause this ? Thanks

Brief Answer:
possible spasm of colon giving such discomfort.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor services.
I have read your query and here is my advise.

* As per my surgical experience, the mentioned type of abdomen pain with cramps
lasting after 3 days, it might be colon spasm related to a particular position or
pressure over the part during intercourse.

* The right-sided cramps are gone away, so it is acceptable to wait for further 24 hours
to observe the progress over the left side before approaching a doc right away.

Kindly follow certain guidelines at present and observe how you stay:

- drink more liquids to maintain good hydration
- high fiber diet is preferable to avoid pressure over bowels during the bowel movement
- avoid weight lifting or strenuous work if involved
- deep breathing exercises and YOGA will help tremendously focusing over the abdomen
muscles
- intake of tablet Acetaminophen (eg. Tylenol 500mg) 3 times a day after meals

I would like to review the condition after 24 hours about the progress or even earlier as per the need.

Wish you a quick recovery and good health.
Regards.
