Question: Hello, please review the attached blood test results. I am interested in the March 2020 results, but have provided historical results for context.

I would appreciate your comments on anything you see that is remarkable, but there are three major areas of concern:

1. NON HDL CHOLESTEROL - Why the increase since October 2019?
2. HEMOGLOBIN A1c - Suggestions to lower this value?
3. ABSOLUTE NEUTROPHILS - Why the low result? Will my ability to fight coronavirus be impacted with this low result? Should I take B12?

Note: Due to an enlarged aorta (i.e. Aorta at sinus of Valsalva 46 mm), my doctor has prescribed Lisinopril 5mg Tablets, Metoprolol ER Succinate 25mg Tabs, and Rosuvastatin 10mg Tablets. These results are BEFORE starting these medications.

Thanks for your assistance.

Brief Answer:
Dyslipidaemia,Prediabetes and neutropenia

Detailed Answer:
Hi....
Welcome to "Ask a Doctor"service.
I am Dr Ajeet XXXXXXX

I have gone through your query/reports and here is my opinion.

1.Your cholesterol levels are increased and it is a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases.

At times, the lipid levels are influenced by the fat contant of last meal and the period of fasting observed.

I hope that you are taking all the dietary precautions for dyslipidaemia....
Take a rich fibre diet with plenty of raw vegetables and fruits.
Avoid fatty and greasy meals.
Avoid junk food, alcohol, sugary drinks and bakery products.
Be physically active.
Have green tea and Apple cider vinegar.
De stress yourself.

You are already on lipid lowering drugs (statins) and with some dietary and life style modifications, you would achieve normal lipid levels.

2.Your HbA1c levels are in prediabetic range.

Avoid sugar, carbonated drinks, starchy foods, bakery products and extra sweet fruits (like mangoes),be physically active and have multiple small meals instead of three major meals.

Repeat HbA1c levels after 3 months.

3.In an individual, neutropenia may be due to multiple reasons like viral infection, drug induced, bone marrow suppression, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
The trigger for neutropenia in your case might be radioactive iodine.
I would suggest you to visit your clinician for complete evaluation and clinical examination.

Your neutrophil count are not alarmingly low so there should not be an impairment of immunity and this does not make you more prone for secondary infections.
Further, lymphocytes (and not neutrophils) are predominantly involved in the immune reaction against viral infections.

There is nothing to get panicked about corona and for it's prevention,do practice hand hygiene, avoid crowded places, mantain a distance from symptomatic persons, take nourishing diet including plentiful of raw vegetables and fruits,be well hydrated, don't be sleep deprived and have regular medical check up.

I think that you do not need any vitamin B12 supplementation as your haemoglobin levels and Red blood cell picture is normal.
It is a water soluble vitamin which is not stored in our body and excess of it is excreted out in urine.

Hope that I have answered your query.
If you have any doubts, please let me know.

Stay healthy and stay blessed.
Regards.
