Hello, I Have Pain In My Right Arm From A

Question: Hello,
I have pain in my right arm from a couple of months. Its starts from shoulders and then pain goes down upto the elbows. Sometimes I get pain on the sides of the breast and the upper bone area too. Doctor has done the physical examination of breats and confirmed that there is nothing suspicious. =There is very little or no pain after my periods and then gradually starts again between 16th and 19th day of my cycle.
One doctor nearby suggested that it is Cervical Radiculopathy and prescribed Nervigen-P for 10 days which I am taking now. After taking this tablet for 4 days I see that the pain which I used to get after getting up from the bed in the morning is reduced quite a bit.
Today is 10th day of my period and noticed milk like discharge from the nipples. I immediately went to the same Gynaec who examined breasts physically. She said it can be because of increased levels of prolactin and took the blood sample for the test. I have stopped breastfeeding to my kid 10 months back.
She also suggested me to undergo a mammogram as I have a terrible fear of breast cancer.
Do I need to undergo the test.
The thought of breast cancer is killing me everyday and breaking out.
There is no history of Cancer in my family.
I have breastfed my child for 2 years.
My thyroid, estrogen, vitamin B12, D and Uric acid levels are normal.
Please tell me how to go ahead about this as this is causing severe stress day in and day out of my life

Brief Answer:
Chances of cancer are very remote.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
I have gone through your detailed history. The pain in the arm radiating to the elbow can be related to cervical pain or muscle spasm.
The milk like discharge can be related to raised prolactin levels and is not related to cancer. Since there is no palpable mass on breast examination, chances of cancer are almost negligible. But a mammogram is the best investigation to allay your fears and become stress free. You can wait for the prolactin level report and in case the levels are normal then plan for mammogram to rule out cancer completely.
Hope this answer is helpful.
Further queries are always welcome.

Hello Mam,
Thank you very much for the detailed reply. It helped me a lot to cope up with the stress I am going through.
Today I am not having any pain on either of the sides.
I have another query. If not raised prolactin levels, what could be the possible cause of this slight discharge?
It is very very less. And I have observed that I comes just before or during my ovulation.
Because of the fear I keep doing self examination several times a day. Can this be a cause too?

Brief Answer:
Frequent examinations can cause this.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Frequent self examinations of breast cause a breast stimulation and can cause a small amount of milk discharge sometimes. Avoid such stimulation and see if it helps.
Other than this, mild ductal hyperplasia or hormonal changes during ovulation can also cause this.
Nothing to worry. The pain seems to be a muscular pain and will gradually subside.
Hope this answer is helpful.

Hello Mam,
Thank you for the reply.
I received my Prolactin Test report. Its 39, which 10 units higher than the normal change.
Other than this I dont have any other issues apart from slight pain in my shoulder and arms.
Can you please tell why the pain radiates gradually in the last two weeks of the cycle?
Do you still suggest for me to go for Mammogram? If so can I delay it a bit. Once the Covid situation eases out a bit, I will get it done. Will that be ok?

Brief Answer:
You can delay the mammogram.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
The raised prolactin levels can cause the mild discharge that you have. The pain in the shoulder and arm is likely to be a muscular pain. An MRI scan of the cervical spine will help in detecting the exact cause.
There is no emergency for mammogram. You can delay it a bit till the situation eases out.
Regards.
