Question: if you do a pelvic exam and it is really painful (right side), could that mean a large cyst on ovary? I am waiting for an ultrasound to be done

Hello,

Thanks for your query.

A cyst, especially a large cyst on your ovary may be found during a pelvic exam. Usually ovarian cysts do not produce symptoms and are found during a routine physical exam, so it is not even necessary to feel really painful during a pelvic exam to have a cyst. However, symptoms can be present, especially with large cysts, so it is possible a cyst to be the reason of the pain.

To confirm an ovarian cyst and to identify the type of cyst, your doctor may perform the pelvic ultrasound.

If you have any more queries, feel free to ask.
