Question: I have a bump on my right collar bone causing pain in that area into shoulder neck and sometimes up into the back of my head. Had it about 1.5 months. Thought it would go away but hasn't. I work out with weights 3 times a week

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Based on your description, you have a swelling in the right supra clavicular region (collar bone area). A few possibilities which I can think of are:

1. Most common cause of swelling in this region is lymph node. Lymph nodes are normally present in this area and get enlarged when there is infection in their vicinity. In your case right side of chest wall and right lung lie in the vicinity of this lymph node.

2. The second cause of this swelling (if it is exactly on collar bone) could be osteoma that is bony swelling arising from collar bone.

3. The third possibility could be lipoma - a fatty tissue swelling.

The pain could be due to infection / pressure on the nerves and surrounding structures by one of the aforementioned conditions.

Without a means to physically examine the bump, I am unable to narrow down on a single possibility. I would urge you to consult your nearest surgeon for a direct physical examination. Few blood test and FNAC (fine needle aspiration cytology) of this swelling might need to be performed to know the exact cause.

Hope this answers your question. Let me know if you have any more queries.

Regards
Dr Sadiq.

I am having stress incontinence - seeing a urologist. My question is if stress incontinence can be caused by episacral lipomas that I have (aka back mouse )? My doc is doing tests to determine if I should have surgery for the incontinence, but if the lipomas are causing it, wondering if I should mention the lipomas to the urologist.

3 days ago noticed marble-size lump to left of sternum. I thought it might be sabaceous cyst or boil, however now it is the size of golf ball. It isn't red or infected looking just hard mass. I saw Dr. today he tried to drain it to see if it was an abscess. There was no pus or signs of infection present. The Dr. also inserted a q-tip about an inch into the incision and also tried to aspirate any fluid. To our surprise, there was no pus and only serosanguinous fluid present. Minimal drainage. The Dr. placed me on Keflex and said if it isn't better in 2 days to notify him and he will refer me to a surgeon. Any thoughts as to what this might be. Of course I have been researching articles on the web, and now I am scared that it could be cancer. Although, I though most cancers don't grow that big in 3 days. Any suggestions on what I should do? I do have history of lipomas and fibrous tumors. I do smoke about 1/2 pk per day. I do not take any medication on regular basis. I am 40, 5'8 and weigh 175 lbs.

Can liposarcoma develop after mole removal surgery ? I had a mole removed long ago and there has been a nodule growth (stable) at the place the mole was. Now it has grown all of the sudden and is painful. It resembles lipoma from pictures but the fact that it has grown more than 2 cm suddenly gets me wondering.
