Brief Answer:
Menopausal Symptoms are Common but Need Treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Following hysterectomy, menopausal symptoms like hot flashes, vaginal dryness, mood swing, anxiety, psychological distress, insomnia etc are quite common.

TREATMENT: HRT) with conjugated estrogen (low dose) is the treatment of choice. Progesterone supplement can be given in contraindication of estrogen.

Alternatively, you can take phytoestrogen like isoflavone (plant based estrogen) instead of steroidal estrogen to avoid side effects. In addition, you can take soy, beans, peas, lentils, whole grains, rye, millet etc which contain plant estrogen.

In addition, SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) group of medication like fluoxetine, paroxetine etc can be given to eliminate vasomotor symptoms.

Kindly, consult with your gynecologist for overall health check up and proper prescription to reduce above problem.

Take balanced diet with vitamin and calcium supplements, drink more water, avoid mental stress by yoga/ meditation and need always sound sleep.

Hope, it helps for you. Let me know, if you need any clarification.

Wish your good health and be well.

Regards,
Dr Soumen
