Does Stress And Loose Stool Have An Effect On The CEA Results?

default
Posted on Mon, 5 Jan 2015
Question: Hi. On September 6, 2013, I had 12 inches of my colon removed (resection). I had Stage 1 colon cancer. I have continued with my CEA blood test, all stable (2.9,2.3,2.9,3.1). In October I had another colonoscopy at Mayo and all was clear, told I do not have to go back for three years for another colonoscopy. Since my colonoscoy came out clear does that raise my chances for a five year survival rate? Also I had another CEA recently and due to stress and something I ate I had loose stools 8 hours before getting the blood test...would that raise my CEA blood test? thank you for answering.

Brief Answer:
The loose stools should not affect CEA results...

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam,

Welcome to Healthcaremagic.

Yes, as you have got normal colonoscopy study your 5 year survival increases. And as such, it was stage one... the survival rates are good.

CEA level is not affected by loose motion. But CEA level increases in many other conditions like liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, COPD , smoking etc. If your CEA level is significantly increased then cause needs to be searched.

Hope I have answered your query. If any further queries are there I would love to help.
