Question: What is the probability that a man easily conceived one child but on the second try is diagnosed with a sperm count of 8?

Thanks for query based on the facts that you have posted it seems that you have first child and your sperm count was revealed to be low at an attempt for second pregnancy.

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) Is it a single reading or mean of three consecutive reports ?
2) Was semen analysis done under ideal condition of abstinence ( No ejaculation )for three days ?.

Production of sperm depends upon many factors and can be variable depending upon environment ,season and stress factors that one has to face in day to day life.

Second aspect it depends upon the time of collection of semen sample and period of abstinence before collecting semen sample which can affect sperm count .

Ideally semen analysis has to be done and semen sample has to be collected after having abstinence of any sort of sexual activities like masturbation or sexual intercourse

Single reading of low sperm count can not be considered to be low or before you jump to conclusion of it to be low count .It is mean value of three consecutive low sperm count readings detected when semen analysis is done at one month interval is labeled to be low sperm count.

The semen analysis was just one reading done under ideal circumstances.

But to be clear it was 8 not 8 million.

A catheter ablation was done about 9 months ago, is it possible that there is scar tissue creating a blockage?

What was the semen volume given for analysis ?.

Your sperm count may be low because of low semen volume given for analysis .

Repeat semen analysis twice at one month interval

No stricture urethra that i know of. I dont dont know the semen volume given

Repeat semen analysis thrice under ideal conditions by collecting semen early in the morning at one month interval and note the semen volume.

Following general measures will help you to increase sperm coun,t
1) Practice regular exercise for 45 minutes followed by meditation for 1/2 an hour in the morning.
2) Take high protein diet rich in vegetables and fruits and Vitamin A,C,D,E.and Zinc
3)Take anti oxidants like Almonds 5-6 everyday
4) Avoid alcohol and smoking
