Posted on Mon, 6 Apr 2015
Question: Hello,

I have gotten sick on feb 1st and was sick for 3 weeks. During that time lots of phlegm coming down from my head and out my nose. It was green mucos for about 2 weeks, accompanied with chills, diarrhea . I took antibiotics from my doctor. The listed symptoms got better , but around 3rd week up until now (currently ) I have a dry cough , and constant urge to cough. Never had this before. My dr said it is asthma and gave me a pump . The pump helps but I am not sure if he's right because I don't have wheezing or attacks just urge to cough and the pump has been helping .Anyway from feb 13 to current time : this is what I have gotten done : chest xray about 4 weeks into sickness. Dr said it was clear . I got hiv rna at 13 days, 4th generation duo test at 23 days, and stat pak at 6 weeks all negative. I did those test as I had a new partner which I am not sure of. I am suppose to be getting an IGe test from a pulmonary specialist, he also thinks I have develop asthma bc he said he heard a little wheezing from auscultation . What do you think? I have never had asthma before I am 27.

Brief Answer:
you should continue with the medical advise.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing your query.
Respiratory Tract Infection can lead to bronchitis. It can be confirmed by chest auscultation, which your doctor has confirmed and advised you the pump for relief. I would suggest that you should continue with the medical advise given by your doctor. A bronchodilator will be helpful in treating asthmatic bronchitis.
I hope this is helpful to you. If you have any further query, I will be happy to help.
Regards. Thanks.

Thank you for responding. I will continue with my pump. Also, does it matter when I got my chest xray done , because I got it done 3 weeks ago when dry cough started getting pretty bad, but since I still have it , is that xray reliable?

Brief Answer:
chest auscultation will be helpful.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your response.
I would suggest that you should continue with the pump and get yourself clinically examined at regular intervals for chest auscultation. An X - Ray of chest can be repeated to see any change from the previous one. Clinical chest auscultation is more helpful in planning further duration and dosage of your treatment.
I hope this answers your query. If you have any further doubts, please mention.
Regards. Thanks.
