Does Progesterone Cream Hinder The Evaluation For Excessive Bleeding?

default
Posted on Tue, 3 Jun 2014
Question: Hi, i have been talking to one of your doctors over the last day or so regarding my heavy, prolonged, very clot-filled current period. I can not get into gyno for two weeks. The doctor said I could use progesterone cream internally 2x daily to seek some relief until I go. I have done this once and now I am wondering if this will hinder the gyno from accurately testing/assessing me if I have temporarily increased my progesterone when it is not normally like that?

Brief Answer:
It will not affect the results.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Using the topical progesterone cream will not hinder the evaluation for excessive bleeding. Right now since you are bleeding heavily this is the best way to save your blood from getting lost through the clots. The hormonal tests that are done are not likely to be altered by using the topical cream. Please do not worry.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Brief Answer:
Could be due to anaemia

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Stopping the cream will increase the bleeding. The symptoms could be due to anaemia caused by blood loss. Take plenty of fluids orally and try to rest. In case the symptoms are persistent then do attend an ER for evaluation.
