Brief Answer:
Nascent iodine won’t help you

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,

Thanks for posting the question. I understand your concerns.

For thyroid cancer, thyroidectomy had done to remove thyroid tissue - and radio iodine will burn out what ever thyroid tissue is remaining in your body after surgery. So at present you don't have any thyroid tissue left in your body to produce thyroxine (thyroid hormone). You are totally dependent on external thyroxine (Synthyroid).

Iodine is a raw material for thyroxine synthesis in thyroid gland. Since you don't have thyroid gland left in your body after radio iodine treatment, it is absolutely of no benefit.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

With warm regards,

Thank you for your answer.

Are you saying iodine's only function is to make Thyroxine in the thyroid gland?

Thank you again?

Brief Answer:
There are other actions also

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,

Welcome back.

As you have pointed out, there are other functions of iodine like anti oxidant and anti proliferation action. In a lactating mother it is essential for iodine secretion in breast milk and development in newborn.

Since almost 50% of ingested iodine is used by thyroid, in your case iodine requirement is less as you don't have thyroid gland.

Hope I have answered your questions
