Question: Hi, I am 4 days late on my period. Have severe period time pain which comes and goes but does get quite bad. Pregnancy tests were all negative and my gp will not do a blood test for pregnancy. I am worried. Could I be pregnant or can something else cause these symptoms?

Brief Answer:
You may not be pregnant.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing to us.

There are so many causes other than pregnancy, which can cause brown discharge.

It can be due to delayed period, infection, hormonal imbalance, STD and old blood of the previous cycle.

As in your case you are having only brown discharge infection and STD can be ruled out.

If you are not using contraceptive pills or other medication then hormonal causes can also be ruled out.

As your pregnancy test is negative the chances of pregnancy are less, but not 100% rule out because it can be falsely negative.

So in my opinion you should wait and watch for your period for 4-5 days if period will not resume then go for repeat home urine pregnancy test to rule out pregnancy. (usually home urine pregnancy test should be done after 7 days of your missed period for more accurate results).

Hope I have answered your query if you have further questions I will be happy to help you.

Good luck.
Regards
