Does Zinnat Cause Vomiting In An Elderly Person?

default
Posted on Thu, 7 Jul 2016
Question: Precisely 2 years ago an abscess developed on a cyst on my liver. The abscess burst and I went into a coma for 4 days due to sepsis through the body. I am 79 yrs "young". During my time in i.c.u. antibiotics etc were duly administered and a tube was placed beneath the skin into the site of the abscess to drain the toxic fluid which it did. I am lucky to be here to tell the story. My question is the for the last 2 years I take Zinnat on a Monday and a Thursday to keep the e-coli bug at bay. I think the Zinnat may be causing me to vomit which has happened over the past three weeks on a Monday and then Thursday afternoon. I am concerned that if I cease taking the Zinnat I am not on risk that the e-coi will re-appear? Your comment will be appreciated. From, XXXXXXX Phillips. My physician is considering the question at present.

Brief Answer:
Did the doctors identify an area harboring E.coli that could not be reached

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about what happened but glad you survived through. To be of most help, it is important to identify what the reasons for this antibiotic were. If it is because there is a permanent source spreading E. coli to the blood system, then I will say stopping will not be the best option. We rather try to switch to other medications void of the side effects. However, this is something to be considered carefully and clearly needs the rationale behind the initiation of this Zinnat to help provide a more personalized and thorough response. I will say, hold on until we evaluate the risk of continuing and discontinuing before you make the decision whether to stop or carry on.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. Above all, thanks for using our services.
