Does Hepatits C Cause High Blood Potassium Level?

Question: can high blood potassium be caused by Hepatits C?I had seed implants in 10/2009 for prostate cancer and i have had this problem with my potassium and sodium every since on an intermittent basis. Do you see any relationship between the radiation and the potassium problem. Currently my potassium blood level is at 6.1 and my sodium is within normal range. thw weeks ago, all was normal. My doctors seem baffled. Usually, the salt drops when the potassium gets high. Is there is drug that can deplete the potassium level without effecting the sodium? Thank you

Brief Answer: Need more details Detailed Answer: Dear Friend. Hi , I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern. Raised potassium levels has no correlation with Hepatitis C. And i don't think that any implant would cause such a problem. Many a times , the report of elevated serum potassium levels is spurious as a result of Laboratory errors or faulty technique of sampling of blood. Still i would like to know following : 1. How many times have you got reports of high serum potassium? 2. Why did you get them tested? Any problem you had? 3. Your Kidney function tests? 4. Medications which you are taking. And the concept you are talking about the relation between falling of sodium and rising of potassium is wrong. There is no relation as such. Revert with these answers for a better help. This is my personal opinion based on details available here. If you also have any query you may please ask me. Stay Healthy. Dr Anshul Varshney , MD
