Can The Spread Of Colon Cancer Be Detected Through Blood Test?

default
Posted on Tue, 27 Jan 2015
Question: Stage 111 Colon cancer which has been surgically removed with no apparent signs of metastesis Is it wise to accept oncologists advise. Is ther a blood test to show whether there is any spread.

Cancer was in ascending colon and lymph glands nearby involved. These removed to gether with blood vessels. I am otherwise in good health and actually had been having occult blood tests for 8 years but obviously this was not picked up until this time.

Brief Answer:
Required adjuvant chemotherapy

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,
Thank you for your query.
Stage III cancer means involvement of the outermost covering of the colon and there are enough chances to have metastasis though apparently there seems to be none. You should get your serum markers done particularly CEA and CA 19.9.
You should take oncologists advice for Adjuvant chemotherapy.
There are fair chances of complete recovery.

Truly,
