Can Syphilis Infection Be Transmitted Through Oral Sex?

default
Posted on Wed, 28 Dec 2016
Question: Hello Doctor
i have diagnosed by Syphilis after 2 months of infection.first VDRL positive followed by TPHA test positive.
i had oral sex with a girl on September 28th.i got ulcers on 3rd week of October which i presume are first symptoms inside my mouth below my tongue.it was painfull ulcers

i got the test done in November 28th since my wife had to undergo IUI for Pregnancy. However she was tested negative probably because we never had any physical contact as far as i remember.

my concerns are:

i have kissed(smooch) a girl(friend of mine) for less than 2 minutes on 29th September.she also performed oral on me for a small duration.
i wanted to know if she is on risk since the incident just happened next day of my incident.

since my wife is tested negative VDRL any thing to worry about?

Thankyou,

doctor

Brief Answer:
Girlfriend may be at risk.

Detailed Answer:
HI XXXXXXX .

Thanks for posting your query.

Well yes definitely there is high risk of your girlfriend getting Syphilis. I recommend you insist her to get tested for Syphilis ( TPHA ) .

Since you had no physical contact with your wife and moreover her VDRL is non reactive , I don't think she is at risk . But since she is going for IUI and may conceive it would be better to get her tested with TPHA test to be on the safer side.

Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarifications feel free to ask.
