Can Infected Teeth Cause Sinus Infection?

default
Posted on Fri, 4 Nov 2016
Question: I had 2 root canals in my upper left side about 7 years ago. Since that time, at first not often, I have had a lot of sinus infections. That is what it feels like again. My general dentist did the crowns after the root canals. My regular root canal doctor couldn't see me to do these as they were emergency before I went on trip out of country so I had new doc. My daughter who use to be a RDA said she thinks he punctured my sinus cavity and that is why I keep having infections and paid. Is that a possibility? My dentist doesn't know anything.

Brief Answer:
Yes, infected teeth can flare sinus infection..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain many a times the roots of upper back teeth are deep into the sinuses and if there if infection in the teeth the same can get into the sinus and cause infection..
There is a possibility that the teeth are although treated with Root canal there is some residual infection below the root tips of the teeth and causing Recurring Sinus infection..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like PNS VIEW x ray of sinuses can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly...
In case if this is the cause then the Physician can advise you a course of antibiotics and painkillers..
Along with it decongestant nasal drops, saline nasal irrigation and steam inhalation can be advised..
If at all still there will be repeated flare up of infection then repeating Root Canal Treatment of the teeth can be advised...

Any further questions are welcome..

Regards..
