default
Posted on Tue, 8 Apr 2014
Question: Hi there. My name is XXXXX and I have 2 boys. 9 and 6. I am currently trying 2 get pregnant and wanted to know the best thing to do to conceive. I'm 30 years old so I'm trying to conceive asap. My partner has no kids and I was pregnant by him once last year unknowingly, but I had a miscarriage. Should I just follow my ovulation days, would that be the best method.

Brief Answer: TRY NATURALLY FOR 6 MONTHS, THEN INVESTIGATE. Detailed Answer: Hello Thanks for writing to us with your health concern. Since you have been fertile , there is no reason to suppose you would have difficulty in conceiving. Since you have had a miscarriage last year, firstly you should be having regular folic acid supplements ( 5 mg per day ). Next follow your ovulation days and try for 5 months naturally. If that fails, consult a Gynecologist. Get follicular tracking done by transvaginal serial ultrasound scans to know if you are ovulating as you should. Get your partner's semen analysis tested. Also, your hormonal levels - FSH, LH, TSH, AMH, Prolactin, DHEAS, Free testosterone. Particularly AMH and day 2 baseline ultrasound scan to count antral follicles - these 2 parameters are important, as they reflect the Ovarian reserve - capacity of the ovaries to form good quality eggs. This is the only factor that declines with age. Also, a laparoscopy / HSG to check patency of fallopian tubes should be done. All the best Please feel free to discuss further.
