Yes, you can use heat to try and ease your discomfort. It can be applied 2 to 3 times a day for 15 to 20 mins.

There are also stretches that can sometimes help to ease lower back pain, if you place the terms back stretches for back pain then you should be find some of these exercises.

Application of products such as voltaren gel to the affected area may also help as well.

The temporary use of anti inflammatory medication such as naproxen or ibuprofen, if you can use these, may also help
