Can Exposure To Agent Orange Cause Periodontal Disease?

Question: I am a 68 year old Vietnam Veteran who currently has a upper plate and only 6 teeth remaining.
I have had peradontal work done in the past.

Could this condition be a result of Agent Orange?

Well, researches does not show direct effect of agent orange on teeth and gums rather there can be other related conditions..

Please answer the following questions so that I can guide you better.

1. How long it has been when you had periodontal work done?
2. Do you have any medical problems like Diabetes or do you take any medication?
3.Are you taking any medication from long time?
4.When you had periodontal treatment do e, did the teeth got better after that or it continues to damage?

I had periodontal work done about 6 years ago.

I have TypeII diabetes and have been taking Metformin for a long time.

The teeth got no better and now I only have 6 left!!

Your loss of teeth seems to be related to Diabetes..

I have seen a large number of cases in which individuals having Diabetes loose their​ teeth due to damage to supporting structure of teeth that is gums and underlying alveolar bone due to deep invasion of bacteria..

So this is most probably the cause..

Maintaining meticulous oral hygiene and regular dental prophylaxis can help you in retaining the left over teeth..
