Can Bilirubin Levels Increase While On Levothyroxine And Bupropion?

Posted on Fri, 13 Oct 2017
Question: I have bilirubin level a little out of range (1.3).
I am a 51-year-old male who has recently had a discectomy and fusion of C-6-7 (ten days) and have been prescribed Norco (7.5-325) and baclofen (10mg) and gabapentin (300MGx2) I use medicinal cannabis lightly each day, approximately 20mg (two gummy edibles). I also am prescribed Levothyroxine (137 MCG), bupropion HCl XL (150 MG), Losartan Potassium(100 MG) and Trazadone MG (100 x 4). Some of these medicines will certainly go away once the healing process is completed over the next six weeks.

My question: Can the medications I am on, either singularly or together cause this increase? I visited my PA this morning and she shared the result and told me to be careful with any drugs I may be taking. I should have asked her if the cannabis use could be causing the increase, but could this be a factor? It should be mentioned that I neither smoke tobacco or drink alcohol and do not utilize recreational drugs.

Brief Answer:
I will need to see this report!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this "increased value" and all the worries this has caused you. 1.3mg/dl is well within the normal range. Unless this is about a specific component, there is nothing wrong with them.

However, I will like that you upload the entire report. This way, I can look at the specifics on this report sheet to make more comprehensive and insightful interpretation.

None of your medications is reported to cause increased bilirubin levels.

I hope to hear from you and most especially with the uploaded report.
