Can Lidoderm Patches Be Used For Back Pain?

Question: My mother has used Lidoderm patches for several years with relief for back pain related to multiple disc fractures and arthritis. Now her insurance is not wanting to cover this medicine. Have you heard of Lidoderm being used for this problem? Any insight wil help in our appeal. Thanks,
