Question: Can Biotin cause palpitations? I started to take biotin 2 weeks ago, today I went to the ER due to palpitations. EKG came back good. The only new thing in my life is Natures Bounty with biotin, is it possible to that is causing me the palpitations?

Brief Answer:
ALLERGIC?

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for posting the query.
Biotin (vit H) is a water soluble vitamin and is generally very safe at therapeuic doses.
I get the opinion that your palpitations are due to some other cause. But i can theoritically relate your symptoms with the biotin you took.
1. higher than the required dose taken might cause non specific symptoms, one may be palpitations (No literature is available regarding this).
2. Biotin allergy - If you are allergic to biotin, you might just develop a reaction that shows as increased heart rate. Rash and other things might not be there.
The only way possible to solve this is to stop it for few days and rechallenge. if symptoms recur, you need to be considered allergic to high doses of biotin.
Hope this helped. All the best.
