Can Aspirin Be Taken When Diagnosed With Dyslipidemia And Hypertension?

default
Posted on Thu, 15 Dec 2016
Question: This is XXXX. I am 67 years old and have no health concerns at this point. My recent LDL and Total lipids was around moderate and have Pre-hypertension. Do you think I should start taking a baby aspirin (81mg) every day? Would that be pointless due to the ten year effect? Would maybe taking a fish oil every day be good as well due to the anti-platelet effect? Thanks so much for you time.

Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

Since your risk for cardiovascular events is moderate (due to dislipidemia and highly normal BP levels) you should start taking baby aspirin once a day.

The benefit in your case surpass the risk for gastrointestinal complication (the so called 10 years effect).

Moreover I would recommend to do a healthy lifestyle and diet to lower further more your lipids and to stabilise your BP.

It's recommended to take fish oil supplements for their positive in lowering BP, lipids and for their antiplatelet effect.

Hope this will be of help!
Wish you health!

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

You may take Aleve together with baby Aspirin. However it's recommended a close follow-up with your doctor.

Please contact your doctor in case of abdominal pain, vomitings or black stools. The combination of this drugs increase the risk of side effects especially gastrointestinal problems.

This is why it's recommended to take the minimal effective dose of aspirin (baby aspirin 81 mg) and to start PPI in case of stomach pain.

This is the most effective treatment in the prevention of cardiovascular events.

Hope this will be of help!
Wish you health!
