Question: I have been taking Valacyclovir Hcl 500 mg, one per day to prevent genital herpes flare ups and it has been working. Recently a new doctor prescribed Acyclovir 400 mg, twice per day ? I was wondering why we just did not stick with the Valacyclovir ?

Brief Answer:
Cannot understand why he did this change either. Strange!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this query.

A bit strange why he did this change. I will not change a drug that works and more so taken once daily to one that I have no clue why he did this. I will suggest that you go ahead and ask him upfront why he made this choice. Maybe he has a reason we are simply missing out on.

Keep me posted on this. I wish you well.
