Are Recurrent Headache And Nose Congestion Signs Of Brain Tumour?

default
Posted on Fri, 11 Mar 2016
Question: I have been having headaches on and off for a month. When I wake up in the morning I do not have a head ache but a few hours later I get one. It is not a bad head ache just enough to know it's there. I also have always had bad sinuses. I am experiencing occasional congestion and small streaks of blood when blowing my nose. I'm really afraid I may have a brain tumor?

The pain is above my eyes at times, the front too of my head, and the back of my head at the base of my skull at times?

If I press on the too of my head up front I get some pain in the back of my head.

Brief Answer:
No need to worry about brain tumor.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to health care magic,

I have read your query and understand the concern.

This headache is likely a tension headache which is a primary or simple headache caused by some precipitating or triggering factor which is relieved by OTC analgesics (ibuprofen or diclofenac) and at the same time eliminating any of this triggering factor like dehydration or heavy sunlight exposure or sleep deprivation or wrong or uncomfortable posture or eye strains or stress or long working hours in one position or even severe gas trouble etc.

Tension headache may last for few hours to some days (may be up to month) occasionally depending on triggering or precipitating factor.

Also,it would be quite rare for this kind of headache to be due to brain tumor So,here I will not think about that possibility and there is no need to be worried about it.

In your case,it could also be related to your sinus problem for which you will only require symptomatic treatment.

But before further discussion, I would like to know,

Is this headache associated with nausea or vomiting or any other symptoms?
Which medications you have taken to get relieved from headache?
Was there any triggering factor (as I mentioned above) for headache?

Kindly get back to me with these answers.I will give my opinion after that.

Awaiting response,

Regards,

Brief Answer:
Take OTC pain killer.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for sharing more information.

From all these facts that you shared here, it is more likely to be having tension type of headache and it usually relieved by taking over the counter appropriate pain killers and at the same time eliminating the triggering factor or precipitating factors.

But I will not think about this headache due to brain tumor So,there is no need to worry about it.

Also,as I said earlier, tension headache may last for few hours to some days occasionally depending on triggering or precipitating factor.

Therefore, in my advice, you should take pain killer combinations like Tab.ibuprofen 400 mg with muscle relaxant like metaxalone (Brand name:Skelaxin).

Anti-anxiety medication (ex.Recita forte) would also be helpful to reduce stress level and if you have not adequate sleep but you will need prescription from some local doctor or GP for muscle relaxant and anti-anxiety drugs.

Take antacid tablets Pantoprazole 40 mg twice daily if you have stomach upset.

Take plenty of fluids (simple water or lemon water) with lots of fruit juices (apple juice and sapota milkshake would be best) for next 3 to 5 days. It would also be important to maintain proper hydration and electrolyte balance which in turn will help to reduce headache.

Avoid oily/spicy/fatty food or even routine diet and take bland diet only for initial few days.

Nebulizer (budesonide respules) 2 to 3 times a day with steam inhalation will also be helpful for your sinus issues and occasional nasal congestion which is likely due to allergic.

We may expect to see improvement within 3 to 5 days and if headache still persists, then it would be better to see physician or Neuro-physician for further evaluation.

Hope this help and let me know if you have more questions.
