Are Negative HIV RNA Test And Third Generation Antibody Test Within Window Period Conclusive?
Question: I am a 40 year old male and had a low risk protected encounter with another male, about 8 1/2 weeks ago. This is a one time thing for me and I have no reason to believe the other person was positive, in fact, he assured he was safe and clean. Approximately 10 days after the encounter I started developing several ARS symptoms,without any real fever.
I went to my GP who told me that i tested positive for recent Mono, although those results were disputed by other doctors and confirmed to be a Epstein Barr reactivation by stress, from another.

As far as testing, I have had many including a negative RNA test at almost 21 days and a negative Third generation test at 7 weeks. I went for what I was hoping to be a conclusive 4th generation test at 8 weeks and the lab is very cryptic about timing and won't answer any questions about reflex tests, making me paranoid that the initial tests were positive. My anxiety has escalated to the point where I am not productive at work and I am no longer functioning, I came to this forum , hoping someone can help reduce my anxiety with some reassuring words or advice. I plan to test again at 3 months, just to be sure. This 8 week 4th generation(assuming it is negative) would get me to a normal place again.

First of all I will say be relaxed and don't be so anxious about HIV. As you have told that RNA test at 21 days and third generation antibody test at 7 weeks both are negative, then no need to be so anxious and get worried about HIV. I hope that your 4th generation test result at 8 weeks will also come negative. As you are thinking I also advice you to repeat test at 3 months and then again after 6 months to be absolutely sure.
