Posted on Thu, 9 Jun 2016
Question: I am taking 10mg of the blood thinner effient and 81mg of aspirin a day. I would like to know if I can also take vitamin K2 with that and if so how much. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
You can take 80 ug of vitamin K2.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Both Aspirin and Effient are any platelets medicines. They do not affect vitamin K production. SO of course you can take vitamin K2. The regular dosage is 80 ug.
The question is why do you want to take it? This vitamin is present in many foods you take daily (like a cheese for example) in a sufficient dosage.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

I continue to get plaque build-up and can not take regular statins so anything would help. I heard from several sources that vitamin K2 keeps calcium in the bones and from going into the arteries and that it makes the arteries more flexible. However, I also heard that it can thin the blood more and cause serious bleeding. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
You can do the same with diet.

Detailed Answer:
It does not cause blood thinning. It actually can make it more prone to coagulate.
Vitamin E, C are good against free radicals protecting from atherosclerosis.
You may also replace animal fats with vegetable oils (there are special margarines which can lower cholesterol and LDLs).
Vitamin K2 has some action in that matter as well.
