Was Diagnosed With DVTS In Both Legs, Pelvis Area Pain, Groin Pressure, UTI, Swelling. What Does It Mean?

Was diagnosed with dvts both legs Thursday night admitted thru ER, discharged yesterday evening. Have ivc filter x3 yrs. since fridayam on lovenox and Coumadin severe pain vertically from pelvis right pubic area upper groin pressure against coccyx had cath in place for two days removed yesterday. when sitting or walking knife like pain. Wonder if it could be clot in filter, bladder or uti, or pinched nerve from some collapsed discs. Have no temp or other signs of infection but except for massive swelling had no typical symptoms for dvt either

Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

First of all, as your IVC filter has just been placed, you could take some time to get used to it. Next, as a catheter was placed for two days, on removal of a catheter, patients do experience some symptoms due to the change, and this is sometimes normal.

But, the placement of a urinary catheter also pre-disposes to infections of the urinary tract. So I would recommend a urine analysis, to find/rule out a possible infection. If an infection is found, appropriate treatment with antibiotics, a urine alkalizer (if the urine is acidic) and pain management medication (if required) would rapidly relieve you of your symptoms.

You would be experiencing pain in the region of your back if you had a collapsed disc(s), which is not present. You can rule this out for now, and consider the more likely possibilities. A clot itself will be prevented by the filter, as this is its primary function. Do not worry about this. The doctor would have examined and ensured proper placement and functioning of the IVC filter.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications. I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.
