Taking Acyclivir And I-lysine For Cold Sores On Lips But There Is No Relief In Pain. What Should I Do?

Hi, I get cold sores on my lip every few months due to illness or stress. I usually take acyclovir and l-lysine and they go away within a week or so. This time is different. This cold sore looks no different and is on my lip, but my face hurts very bad. I have been alternating acetaminophen and ibuprofen for pain but it is not helping. I once even blood poisoning from a cold sore and it never hurt this bad. Do you think anything could be wrong?

Hello,
Cold sores are caused by infection or reactivation of herpes virus.
The treatment is by acyclovir and you are on treatment with the same drug.
For pain relief you need o take analgesic and antiinflammatoy drugs.
Since you are not prescribed with analgesic drugs, I advice you to consult your doctor for prescription of analgesic drugs.

Thank you
