Suffering Form IBS. Is It Safe To Take Non Prescription Medicine Iberogast? Any Side Effects?

I have had IBS since 2000, after a visit to India for one month. I am not sure that is related, but that is the time I first started the symptoms of gassiness, diarrhea, cramping, bloating, etc. that seems to have no cause and goes away after 1 to 2 days, but recurs as much as weekly. My personal physician also stated I had IBS. My question is: he suggested taking a non-prescription preparation called Iberogast, which is rather costly. I have used this and it does appear to reduce the symptoms. Are there any risks or problems with this medication, and why is it not mentioned in the material on this website as a remedy?

hi,
generally if IBS is diagnosed, then antidepressants are prescribed, along with which you can also take good pre/probiotic which is supposed to reduce the symptoms drastically.

Iberogast is an prokinetic, which increases the gastric motility, and reduce the bloating sensation. since it is herbal product, probably it is safe.

wish you good health
