Is Normal Delivery Possible In Case Of Pregnancy With SAPHO?

Hello Doctor,

Bellow is a message from someone in our SAPHO group. Is there anything we can tell her? I don't experience with SAPHO and preganancy. Thank you for your time and attention. Best, Melanie

Hallo everyone.

I would appreciate if some one could share experience or facts about giving birth and sapho. I was diagnosed with sapho in 2005. I’m due to give birth soon J 2nd child, and the gynecologists do not recommend me to have a caesarean section, because I have an autoimmune decease. This worries me quite at lot. I have concerns that the pelvis in worst case scenario won’t “open” natural because of inflammation and hyperostosis and the child will be stuck. I am also concerned about my function level after giving birth naturally. I was so disabled from the pain after my first pregnancy that I couldn’t carry or feed my new born son. What if my pelvis will be permanent damaged from the labor and does not “closes” normal after birth? What if I will again will be so disabled from pain, that I will not be able to be alone with the child? No one can say for sure how much the pelvis has suffered from hyperostosis, because no x-ray or CT has been made since 2005.

Unfortunately I live in a very small country, with only one hospital, 3 gynecologists and 1 reumatolog. No private hospitals. So I do not have many options. Epidural blockade is only given in daytime, so it is -too bad - if you suffer from 15 o’clock afternoon until 8 o’clock the day after. Maybe some of you can give me some good advice or share good links about my problem. Did anyone of you give birth natural?

Hello..i think you should not get fearful regarding normal vaginal delivery esp when you have already done it once..its much easier and sooner for the second time as the rate of cervical dilatation and head descent is faster..
However regarding the condition of your pelvis,a per vaginal examination by a gynecologist would rule out contracted pelvis..then only you would be taken up for vaginal delivery
