Is Fluctuation In The Platelet Count Normal?

Hello , I'm a 47 year old female who has been diagnosed with ITP .i had surgery for endometrial cancer on May the 2nd, 2011. My platelet count would plunge due to heavy abnormal bleeding. My platelets rose to 133,000 but have now dropped to 85,00. Is it normal for platelets to fluctuate?

Hi
In ITP platelets are destroyed by the antibodies against them, hence count falls.
Coming to your query, it is not normal for the platelets to decrease to low levels. With decreasing counts you might develop bleeding manifestations, discuss with your doctor the need for steroids and platelet transfusion and monitoring of platelet counts.
Take care
