Has Pacemaker, Feel Tight In Arm, Difficult To Close Hand. Ultrasound, X-ray Is Normal. Problems With Pacemaker?

My husband had a pacemaker put in February 2013. After a couple months, he began noticing that his left arm was "tight" and about 1" larger around than his right arm. It would be difficult to close his hand. This would happen sporadically. He went back to the cardiologist who told him that it was nothing unusual......end of appt. There was no explanation as to why my husband was having this problem OR what to do about it! In fact, the cardiologist was quite rude when we asked questions. His response was, "how am I supposed to know that this might happen?" SO, my husband decided to get a second opinion and went to another cardiologist. This cardiologist agreed that there WAS a problem, sent him for an ultrasound and a chest x-ray. Supposedly, the tests didn't show any problem, yet......there OBVIOUSLY is a problem! This cardiologist consulted with another cardiologist in his group who said that it might be a blood clot that was not detected by their tests. They told my husband to start taking one 325 mg. aspirin/day. They also suggested that he get a compression sleeve and have physical therapy! Now, my husband is having pains in his arm, around his pacemaker and around one of the wires near his arm....the arm that is swelled. When he went to his urologist recently, the urologist hinted that something might been done incorrectly during the installation of the pacemaker. We are beginning to wonder if the cardiologists are just trying to "cover" for something that was done wrong when the pacemaker was installed??? Do you have any idea what the reason might be for the swelling and pain of my husband's arm? Thanks, Karen

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hi Karen,

The problems your husband is experiencing might be related to late allergic reaction to pacemaker. As pacemaker is considered a foreign particle, our body reacts by such "swelling" and pain as your husband is experiencing to get it out.

Therefore, we must help your husband's body by re-opening the place where pacemaker is placed and re-examine its function and properties.

Discuss this option with his cardiologists.

Take care.
