Child With Diarrhoea And Dehydration. Chances Of Celiac Disease?

we have a 6 year old daughter that has had diarrhea for 8-10 days, black, foul, low fever 101. Went to the pediatrician today, suspect possible parasite, sent home with instruction for fecal sample and of course lots of hydration. My research doesn't bear that out. Ulcer or gastroenteritis seems a little better match. Possible celiac disease as a cause?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

Diarrhoea is a part of gastroenteritis. The doctor has rightly ordered a stool examination to know the cause of diarrhoea. It is too early to think of coeliac disease in diarrhoea of 8-10 days duration. You mentioned ulcer but have not specified ulcer of which part of the intestine. One can have ulcers in large intestine following parasitic infection or even bacterial infection.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your daughter an early recovery.
